Welcome to Pwll Deri.

Perched high above the cliffs at Pwll Deri, this unique coastal retreat offers some of the most breathtaking views in Wales — sweeping panoramas across the sea towards the St Davids Peninsula, with unforgettable sunsets all year round.

For more than 70 years this historic building has been welcoming travellers to Pembrokeshire from all over the world. Pwll Deri provides spacious, comfortable group accommodation for up to 24 guests in seven en-suite bedrooms.

Step inside and you’ll find a warm, cosy and welcoming space. The open, glass-fronted conservatory invites you to relax over morning coffee while watching the bay below for seals, dolphins, porpoises and occassionally even whales. A wood-burning fire sets the tone for relaxed evenings, while the fully equipped professional kitchen makes cooking for large groups a pleasure, not a chore.

With our doors opening directly onto the coastal path, it’s an ideal base for exploring on foot, by car, or bike — with secure storage for bicycles onsite. If you need ideas for locations or activities, we are very happy to advise you on where to find the best hidden beaches, coastal coves and local attractions.

Whether you’re planning a family holiday, walking weekend, or group adventure, this unique accommodation offers space, comfort and a chance to slow down and savour the wild beauty of the Welsh Coast.

The History.

Castell Mawr (informally known as Pwll Deri) started it’s life as a cliff-top farm, before being adapted into a hostel by the Youth Hostel Association in 1955. For more than 70 years this beloved historic building has been welcoming travellers and adventurers to experience the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park.

The Volunteer Archivist at the YHA has compiled a fascinating profile that documents the building’s history, available below.

As a small family business, we became custodians of this beloved building in 2026. In addition to providing exclusive hire of the space, we work with outdoor activity providers and instructors to host residential retreats that support young people and adults alike to experience the magic of the only Coastal National Park in the UK.
